Is my opinion on carfree cities an ideology (I.e. what I wrote in Record article)? Yes, mostly.
Is simply enjoying the artwork at public transit stations and deciding for myself that I will drive cars as little as possible an ideology? No I don’t think but it’s close to one, be careful of thoughts of it leads to universally better world.
Less pollution? Yes.
Possible for different uses that promote active lifestyle and more impromptu interactions and events on streets? Ya probably.
Better world? Depends on who you ask, so can’t say yes.
Even when I ask myself sometimes, I admit, I am not always enjoying this world of carfree inconvenience and forced dependence on others even if it is more sensical to me.
This is why I don’t think I should go into urban planning or religious leadership because I’m too vulnerable to letting my thinking become ideological. Better to find technical/manual work that I enjoy/can live with.
I have definitely met this definition of “idealogue” in the past. I’ve definitely thought I could work towards “making the world a better place” without “setting my house in order” first.
The whole ministry inquiry experience was proof of this. I had lots of family/emotional/attachment/esteem/ego/mental issues I hadn’t worked out before I started attempting to preach to a few hundred people (still haven’t worked it all out).
My wisdom's growing though.
Many of my days these days are nihilistic, there doesn't seem to be a method or direction I'm taking but maybe this is part of what needs to happen.
Not what needs to happen for the world to be perfect, to end my suffering or others' suffering but I think this discomfort, this directionlessness, this low self-esteem is what it means to be searching for the kind of suffering I want to endure, the path I want to follow, this is likely part of the process of setting my house in order after the chaos of my past few years.
Just keep putting your hope in this, don't lose it completely or let an all-encompassing ideology or person representing an ideology take you over again, Jonathan.
